Typical Operating Envelopes

Application Evap Temp (°C) Cond Temp (°C) Max Pressure Ratio Max Discharge (°C)
AC - Scroll (R-410A) -10 to +15 +30 to +65 ≤ 4.5 ≤ 115
AC - Rotary (R-32) -15 to +15 +30 to +65 ≤ 4.0 ≤ 120
Low Temp - Scroll (R-404A) -45 to -10 +25 to +55 ≤ 12 ≤ 135
Medium Temp (R-134a) -20 to +10 +30 to +60 ≤ 8 ≤ 120
Heat Pump (R-410A) -25 to +20 +25 to +70 ≤ 5.5 ≤ 120

High Discharge Temperature Causes

  • • High compression ratio (low suction / high discharge)
  • • Insufficient superheat (liquid floodback)
  • • Condenser fouling or undersized
  • • Non-condensables in system
  • • Compressor valve leakage

Protecting the Compressor

  • • Maintain proper superheat (5-15K typical)
  • • Ensure adequate condenser airflow
  • • Check discharge temp switch setting
  • • Monitor oil level and return
  • • Verify refrigerant charge
